Use Social Networking To Start Your Blog

Category: Social Media

Is Twitter and Facebook Worth All The Hype?

Everyone is talking about social networking these days. I even see news reporters shouting out their new twitter account. Sometimes I think a secret popularity contest has broken out amongst the traditional media. So you are probably asking "how can you use social media to evelvate yourself to star status?" That's a great question. Especially since the internet is in the second phase of the business cycle, the star cycle. First comes creation, then comes the stars. Then the managers. If you want to create a star blog, just remember one thing. You don't want to keep putting 1 in to get 1 out. You want to put 1 in to get 100 out. You've got to learn which social networks work the best. Then you've got to learn which of the best social networks work the best for your blog. Then you've got to learn which of those provide the most leverage. I am focused on StumbleUpon right now because I can build up residual traffic. I don't want my traffic to stop the minute I stop socializing. I am also focused on Twitter because I think their team will make it a search engine. I am speculating on it.

(Revised Jul 3, 2009) Since I last wrote this blog post, I have temporarily abandoned Stumble Upon. I have researched how anti SEO the social network community is. I have concentrated all my efforts on Twitter. I've recevied the best positive responses from Twitter. I also tried Sphinn. However, it seems like you have to be on the in crowd to achieve any buzz. I can't justify all the work required just to land a few top links. I have other better methods.

Is Social Networking Good Or Bad

Some people might warn about the dangers of social networking because of private lifestyle material getting out. I would warn about the huge waste of time it can be. However, it can be fruitful. Just keep this in mind. Not every network attracts the same audience. Some networks might frown upon any commercial intent. Some might be anti blogging or anti SEO. Its a matter of trial and error.
