No Follow Links To Your Blog

Category: Blogging For Starters

What does NO FOLLOW mean?

It means the link doesn't count!!! It means the site has discredited the link. How can you find out if a link is no followed or if a site is no following your links? You can right click on the link, then click properties. You will see the no follow tag is the site isn't giving credit to your links.

Technorati Blurbing

I was trying out the new Technorati blurb feature. They allow you to tag blog pages and submit blurbs to build a wiki style database. Well I noticed they don't allow the spiders to crawl any hyperlinks you may enter into your blurb. They add a no follow tag. I can't speak for everyone. However I know a lot of people don't know what a no follow tag is. Well it's a tag that instructs search engine spiders like Google's to not count the link. This means the blurb will not help your search engine results one bit. I think Technorati is a great service. Just remember, links that are spidered are inifintely more effective than no follow tagged links.

Hub Pages And No Follows

I also ran into the use of no follow tags when I posted new content on Hub Pages. I discovered I needed a certain profile score to make my links followed. The point is, just keep in mind the quality of links you are creating. You could be wasting a lot of time if all of your links are no followed. Google advises bloggers to no follow all the links in their comments. I don't use blog commenting as a link building strategy. However, I do comment on other great blogs.

Peter Lee's Blog Post About Linking

If you would like to read what people are saying about link building, check out Peter Lee's blog post at backlink building. There are a lot of misconceptions about linking. Peter outlines some key point about how people put too much emphasis on page rank, link counts in the search, quantity of links etc...
