Freelance Writing Tips

I compiled some tips for freelance writers first starting out. These tips are from years of working on freelance projects in writing, marketing, design etc...

Tip #1 - Don't Over Sell Your Writing Services

Don't oversell, under sell. This means don't over promise. People have a way of honing in on solo entrepreneurs and going for the kill. They will try to manipulate you any which way. Be prepared for this. Anticipate it might take three revisions before the customer is happy.

Tip #2 - Avoid These Types Of Customers For Freelance Writing

Avoid other writers for customers. Other writers will never be satisfied with your work. They usually always think their work is superb. Don't ask me why marketers and writers try to hire out when they never are happy. You will do yourself a lot of good by focusing on clients who don't consider them an expert in your field.

Tip #3 - Don't Worry About Getting Paid - Too Much

If you give off the vibe that you need money, then your freelance customers will take advantage of that. You need to stick to professional conduct. Send invoices. Don't get emotional. I once a had a writer worry to death over a $500 project. I was going to pay her. She demand I pay right away. She just didn't follow any standards. Don't sabotage yourself by not being professional. Some customers will rip you off. A lot won't. Don't sweat the small stuff.
